Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines

While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!

Some of the new up-and-comers include:

Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine

Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine

Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine

ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine

Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews

It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular — but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

I'll answer your questions in two parts:

1) Search is the best source for qualified online leads. These users are actively raising their hands for specific brands or products and services in the industries in which these brands compete. Not only is the traffic qulaified, but the media is sold on performance based terms (cost-per click, not CPM).

2) Both paid and organic results are important, however paid is far easier and faster to use to immediately achieve results. Focus on Google and Yahoo, which combined are roughly 70-80% of all volume. You can buy the media yourself or use an agency to place the buy. My firm (yes, a shameless plug) goes a step further and bears all the risk to generates the results/outputs you desire (calls, forms, or sales) and only receives compensation for pre-agreed deliverables. Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:
The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank

I have been selling electronics on ebay for 3 months now. Right after i went to… There they showed me where to get electronics for such a low price that I profited just a bit over
$ 10,000 my first month. There is also good products to buy in bulk there that you can sell. They also added me to their msn messenger and keep me updated on new leads and new info on how to improve my business. They are very helpful. Iam very happy and I recommend them.http://makemoneyfromelectronics.com/…
